It is with a solemn heart that I announce the passing of one of our own. Yesterday, Bob Hagans W4SOG passed away peacefully in Hospice.

Today, I spoke with his granddaughter and she shared some wonderful stories with me that I will share with all of you at our meeting this Wednesday, where we will also honor Bob for his service to this country and our community.

Last year, Bob was an Honor Flight recipient, an award given to distinguish members of our community who served our country in the armed forces.

Bob’s inurnment will be in Bonifay Florida, but a service will be held here locally. When that is known, we will announce it here.

Bob was sharp as a tack up until his passing. His granddaughter found what appears to be him assisting with his obituary. We are honored that Bob thought so highly of our club, and it will be my privilege to speak more about this and his contributions at our meeting this Wednesday.

Bob,
Was a great amateur operator. A VE giving tests every month. Sat at the old ham shack in the museum lobby demonstrating morse code to visitors. Up until lately would spend all night at fields. Bob was the senior member in the club. I have no idea how long he was a WPBARG member. I know over 30 years. The club has lost another special member. RIP Bob

I meant over night at field day. There is a good picture of Bob on QRZ. I cannot get it loaded to the forum. Mike can you get the picture loaded. Would be nice to have it for the club to see, epically new members that did not know Bob well.

Deepest condolences to Bob's family and friends... I only had the pleasure of meeting Bob twice and was very impressed with his accomplishments and military service. RIP Semper Fi 73

It is with deep regret I see the news about Bob’s passing. He was always a pleasure to work with, as I remember being in on many testing sessions as a VE. Also back in the time the club had our Sunday morning breakfasts at Tom Sawyer, he was usually the regular that didn’t miss out. Rest in peace, Bob.

It is with much sadness that I write this remembrance about my old friend, Bob Hagans. I think back on the many, many hours that he and I worked together on Club issues. While the Ham Shack was up and running at the Science Center, Bob and I were there seven days a week manning the station. Together we explained the hobby, its history, and put, probably, several thousand visitors "on the air". When the Science Center needed our "space" for offices, Bob and I, splitting the days, worked a "table" where we showed the visitors and taught the youngsters how to "write" their names in Morse Code. He and I would arrive at the Science Center about an hour prior to the monthly meetings and make coffee, put up the pastries we had purchased, get the raffle prizes ready for members and set up the table for the 50/50 ticket purchases. Bob was a regular at our weekly Sunday Club breakfasts and was instrumental in finding new restaurants when necessary. For years, Bob was in charge of the testing of candidates for Amateur Radio Licensing and did a stella job. Finally, several years ago, we shared a cabin on a cruise ship when the Club sponsored a members and guest four day trip out of Port Everglades. He was a good friend and I, and the Club, will miss him greatly

I am saddened to learn of Bob's passing. We were friends for 30 years, my wife, Nancie, knew his Lady friend before I became a Ham.
I was over at his place a couple of times earlier this year and we just sat on his front porch and talked about old times like our many field days and VE sessions together. 73 Bob.

In December 2019, I tested for my Technician. I joined the club that same day and attended the Holiday party a few days later. I sat next to Jerry KI4NUV and across from Bob. From the moment I sat down, I never left the table. I was enamored by those two telling stories of days long gone. I asked a few questions here and there, but spent most of my time listening… and learned a few things.

When I was younger, I would remember good times in the past, never realizing how special they were in their moment. Later in life, I learned to recognize those moments, and enjoyed them even more in their present. That evening was one of those times.
