This has to be one of the best stories of the year!
Eugenio Suarez, a 35-year-old third baseman for the Cincinnati Reds, took two days off to finish his Naturalization process to become a citizen. Taking days off during the season is a big deal, usually reserved for births and deaths.
To make it even more interesting, in early August he was placed on waivers. When no one picked him up, the Reds put him back in the lineup. He promptly had the best offensive month on the team with 6 homeruns and 20 RBIs. Then he takes time off - valuable time for 35-year-old who knows he's on the chopping block perpetually.
To bring it all home, his teammates changed his "walk-up" song to God Bless America when he came to the plate in the second inning, then in the third inning, he launched a three-run home run to put the Reds up 6-4. His teammates chanted "USA, USA" for him.
What a Country! God Bless American!

"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat." - Teddy Roosevelt
