Things are not always as they appear, both good and bad. On the other side of fake reviews, Amazon vendors can pay for positive reviews. There are companies that facilitate this. Amazon vendors can purchase from dozens to hundreds of positive reviews. Individuals will purchase the vendor's product, then get reimbursed for the purchase and paid a fee to leave a positive review. Amazon vendors will also bribe legitimate buyers who leave negative reviews to remove or change them.

This not a local issue and it's not limited to Amazon and Google, so be careful when vetting online vendors to purchase from.
