Kevin Mitnick/SK, and a $16,000 Ham Radio License

I've been long out of the 2600 subculture, so when I heard Kevin Mitnick was a silent key just a few moments ago, I was shocked and saddened. I didn't even know he was sick.

In 2002, Kevin Mitnick fought the FCC and won, but it cost him $16,000. For me, this is less about amateur radio and more about phone phreaking and social engineering.

Susan Thunder, Lewis DePayne, Captain Crunch, and of course Kevin Mitnick. Those are the people who I will forever remember. If you know these names, you know the difference between a blue box and a red box, and the meaning of 2600.

Usenet, FidoNet, finger, gopher, xterm... it's all coming back to me. Good days, good times...
