Getting Started in Amateur Radio

Getting started in amateur radio has never been easier or less expensive than it is today. Previously you were required to know Morse code and pass a Morse code test (sending and receiving) before you could obtain any class of license. Knowledge of Morse code is no longer a requirement.

No longer is it necessary to purchase books or attend a class.  You can now study from the comfort of your own home at your own pace, all for free.  It is completely free. There’s no charge on the front end, no charge on the back end, no tricks or traps,  just free. HamStudy employs the latest amateur radio study tools, using  ham radio flash cards, practice tests, and question pools as well as introduction to ham radio and explanations for questions. Their intelligent Study Mode tracks your progress. We are partnered with HamStudy and offer testing every other month here in West Palm Beach. We will help you through the licensing process. Many start out in the hobby purchasing an inexpensive hand held VHF/UHF radio and talking on local repeaters. This type of radio is available for less than $40.00. For a limited time, you can get a free VHF/UHF radio after passing your test. More information on that is here – https://wpbarg.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=6

The hobby is wide ranging and it may take some experimentation to determine which aspects of it you enjoy the most. You may want to do this before making any larger equipment purchases.

Amateur radio operators have many choices for Things To Do. Want to know more? Come to one of our meetings or any of our listed activities. We can’t wait to meet you!
