October CERT Training

Posted on September 23, 2024September 23, 2024 By Michael M
Announcements

In addition to the Train the Trainer course – https://wpbarg.com/2024/07/31/september-cert-training-train-the-trainer/ – that will be held in October, there will also be CERT course in October. This will be the last one for the year.

For those interested, this is a great opportunity to be involved in our community. The CERT program is administered and supported nationally by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and I would encourage this course for anyone who is looking to increase their skills in disaster preparedness, including medical operations, search and rescue, terrorism, disaster psychology, and more.

Monthly Meeting – August 25

Posted on September 21, 2024September 25, 2024 By Michael M
Meetings

Our monthly meeting, held on the fourth Wednesday of the month, is this coming Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.

These last few months may be good for the Boys of Summer, but not so much for amateur radio, and this summer has been a hot one. Fall officially starts tomorrow, and at the meeting we will be discussing upcoming events for what kicks off our new season in the fourth quarter of the year.

Like last year, we’ll kick off the new season with a picnic and our Saturday in the Park that starts up again next month. Let the fun begin!

The board has advanced some great ideas of different projects and activities, and we’ll talk more about that for the coming season. We always welcome other ideas and suggestions. Our guiding principles in these activities are SFL, Safety, Fun, and Learning.

As always, we welcome everyone to our meetings and activities, members and non-members, whether licensed or not!

Location:
Cox Science Center and Aquarium
4801 Dreher Trail North, West Palm Beach, FL 33405

Testing begins at 10:00 a.m. When you get to the front door let them know you are here for the amateur radio exam and they will get you to our room. Below is an ARRL link on what to bring Saturday.

July CERT Training

Posted on May 24, 2024 By Michael M
Announcements

We had an excellent meeting this past Wednesday to a full house, with several people representing our local government in Palm Beach County attending.

I have spoken with the Emergency Program Coordinator, Division of Emergency Management, for Palm Beach County, and we are excited to make the following announcement.

In July, there will be a CERT training.

Activities, Announcements

Beyond this being the last solar eclipse in North America for the next 20 years, it provides an exceptional opportunity for every amateur radio operator to participate and contribute data points for this important event. The information we can provide will assist domestic and international scientists, and well over a dozen participating universities including MIT, Dartmouth, Rice, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Embry-Riddle, and others.

Here is the latest information from Ed Efchak, WX2R. Ed is the Public Information Officer for HamSci, and you can engage Ed directly with any questions you may have here – https://wpbarg.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=1637#p1637
