Saturday in the Park

This Saturday, with FLARC, we are going to attempt some HF slow scan work, exchanging real-time photos of each other.

If you’re experienced in this, come on down and be part of our team. If you’ve never done it before and like to see it, well, come on down for that too!

That’s Saturday the 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Directions can be found here – Saturday in The Park & Directions – WPBARG Forums

We welcome all visitors. Come one, come all!

Edit: How did it go? Here’s a recap of this day’s events – John Prince Park Portable Operations Event – WPBARG Forums

Our First Saturday in the Park was a Home Run!

Posted on February 26, 2023May 15, 2023 By Michael M
Activities

Not just a home run, we hit it out of the park! They say a picture is worth a thousand words and a video even more. Rather than talk about it, let’s watch it.

Before we get to that, I want to thank everyone who participated, including our members, those interested in our club, and those who joined right there. I want to thank Jo, whose idea this was. Great idea, Jo! Thank you Marc for taking the group photo. Thank you Richard for being the club’s official “Chef de Ham”. Without Richard and Jo we would all go hungry. And of course, I want to thank Eric for driving a three hour round trip to meet the folks here and doing a video on our organization, with an honorable mention to our sister club, the Fair Lawn Amateur Radio Club. It was great making contact and getting to know the members of our sister club.

I do want to say to our brothers and sisters in Fair Lawn, New Jersey that it was great working you from the park, but there’s no need to let Ed have all the fun down here in sunny South Florida. Pack your bags, come on down and join us for the next Saturday in the Park!

Here is Eric’s video of this event – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HNUijZs8mA Be sure to check out Eric’s other videos there. He has some great content.

Note: To those who were there, but did not make the group photo, I apologize. As some folks come late or leave early, it’s not possible to always get everyone in the shot.

This Saturday February 25 at John Prince Park

Activities, Announcements

Another fantastic meeting last night, filled with fun and laughs. As always, it is great seeing everyone! What I like the most about these meetings is the meeting after the meeting, watching folks build relationships with one another. That’s what this is all about, laughs, good times, and fellowship. So on to the next…

Saturday in the Park with special guest, Eric of Ham Radio Concepts

We are getting together this Saturday, February 25th, from 10:00 to 2:00, at John Prince Park to do HF work on phone and CW with our sister club the Fair Lawn Amateur Radio Club in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. There will be plenty of time to do all other kinds of contacts that folks would like to do.

We are going to have a special guest. Eric from Ham Radio Concepts will be joining us and doing a video on our club. Eric hosts one of the most popular YouTube channels on Ham Radio, so you probably have seen him here – Ham Radio Concepts

Bring food, drink and snacks for yourself, and anything you may like to share, and radio gear if you’d like to participate. We also have some frozen hot dogs and hamburgers from our picnic and Richard will be cooking that up for us again. Thank you, Richard!

Are you new to amateur radio? Thinking about getting your license? Or maybe you’re just curious about events like this. Stop by! We are an open and friendly club and welcome all new visitors.

Last Night’s Meeting & More

Posted on January 26, 2023May 15, 2023 By Michael M
Activities, Announcements, Meetings

As always, it was great seeing everyone. At each meeting we always miss a couple of different faces, so we look forward to seeing you at our next meeting! Visitors are always welcome!

It was a great meeting, and with the participation and ideas of our members, we got a lot done, including a new monthly activity for the spring.

Ed (WX2R) provided an informative and impressive presentation. He really understands marketing and the dynamics of this industry. Thanks, Ed!

Saturday in the Park

No, this isn’t Chicago’s hit in the ’70s. Due in part to the success of our picnic, we’ve got a new activity that’s going to begin next month – “Saturday in the Park.” It will be the Saturday that follows our Wednesday monthly meeting, so next month that’s going to be February 25th at 10:00 a.m.

While the weather is cool, this will be a monthly, informal get-together that will include radio work for those who are interested. All are invited. We are also going to coordinate this with our sister club, the Fair Lawn Amateur Radio Club (FLARC), in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, to make HF contacts up there.

Bring food, drink and snacks for yourself, and anything you may like to share, and radio gear if you’d like to participate.

Hamcation

Several of our members are going to be attending Hamcation this year in Orlando. If you’ve never been, I can highly recommend it. Click here for more information on Hamcation – https://www.hamcation.com/

We’re going to coordinate getting together while we’re up there, and there was some talk of doing POTA activations on the way back. I’m setting up a topic in our WPBARG Forum for additional discussion and coordination.

Picnic Photos and Video

Posted on January 24, 2023May 15, 2023 By Michael M
Activities

A great time was had by all! The club provided the food and drink, and with Richard at the grill everyone had their fill. We had four portable stations in operation on several different bands including 10, 15, 17, and 20. Marcos was working 20 for a while, I made it across the pond on 10, Ed was QRP, and we had some visitors from JTRG, Ed and Steve, working CW with Randy and Martin. Randy made his second-ever CW QSO!

Unfortunately, a few folks left before the group picture was taken.

In addition to the picnic, we’re going to have some portable fun. Don’t have any portable gear? No problem… we share! Come on out, have some fun, and maybe get some ideas if you’re thinking of building your own go box, or share your ideas with others who may be considering on building theirs.

Last Night’s Holiday Party

Posted on December 15, 2022May 15, 2023 By Michael M
Activities

We had our holiday party last night and I think everyone had a great time… I know I sure did!

This is the type of activity we will be doing more of. There also was some interesting conversation on how we could be more engaged in our community. We will discuss more of that at our next meeting in January. Before that meeting, we have our picnic on January 21, 2023. More information on that is here – First WPBARG Picnic of 2023

For some photos Dirk (N4AN) took and sent us to post, go here –  https://wpbarg.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=88 Thank you, Dirk!
